"Seduced by a Sinner" by Cynthia Woolf Blog Tour Stop!

Today I am so pleased, once again, to have author Cynthia Woolf visiting my blog! Cynthia is joining us today for a guest post and to let us know about her newest book in her DESTINY IN DEADWOOD series, "Seduced by a Sinner." Enjoy!

"Inside the Mind of the Author"
a guest post by Cynthia Woolf

Stories come to me in all guises. Some are just snippets of a title, some are full blown, scene by scene (I wish this kind happened more often). What I do is take that idea and try to form it into a story. This particular series was formed when I was watching the HBO television show DEADWOOD. When it first was on television, I wouldn’t watch it because it was so violent. But then my husband got it on DVD and I watched the first episode. The story was wonderful. And I don’t think the violence was out of line for the time. The old west, Deadwood in particular, was a violent, dirty place to live and often to die.
Once I get the idea, I sit down and write out a bit about it. What characters I want there, what is their reason for being there, who they are, what they look like. Now most every writer does this kind of thing to some extent, but I usually don’t go much beyond this before I begin to write the story. I’m what you call a pantser and so I don’t plot out the whole book before I write it. Many authors plot out the book scene by scene. They know what it going to happen before it happens. I don’t. My characters take shape on the page and I meet them the same way you do when you read the book for the first time.
Because I let the story unfold as it come to me, most times I’m as surprised as you are what the characters do. I honestly didn’t know that Lily, had a baby out of wedlock in this book until I started writing it. I love that I get to know the characters as I write, just as you get to know them as you read.

This is the third book in the Destiny in Deadwood series but you can also read it as a stand alone.

Book Synopsis
Zach Anderson is a desperate man. He needs to find a killer before the man destroys Zach’s entire family. He also must convince one Lily Sutter, the woman he loves, that she loves him and wants to marry him.

Neither task is an easy one.

Lily Sutter is a sinner. Just ask anyone in Deadwood. She had a baby out of wedlock and she doesn’t deny it. She was seduced and left by one man; she refuses to be taken in by another. The fact that Zach makes her blood boil and her heart race, just by being near, has nothing to do with anything.

Thursday, June 28, 1877

Zach reined to a stop in front of the Deadwood mercantile. He was looking forward to seeing Lily, but more importantly, Lily had a spare room and he needed someplace to live. Hopefully, she’d be willing to rent to him.
He probably should get a bath and a shave before he talked to her, but he was just too dog-tired. Over the past three weeks, he’d chased Jordan to Cheyenne and then southwest toward Denver. Always behind him perhaps only minutes, but still behind. Only getting close enough once in Cheyenne, to have seen him. Jordan could have killed him then, but Zach had seen him at the last moment and avoided most of the intended damage. The knife only cut him from below his eye to his mouth. It could have slashed his throat. Bleeding like a stuck pig afterwards, Zach had to find a doctor and get stitched up. By then, he’d lost Jordan and didn’t find him again until just outside Deadwood. Jordan was returning to Zach’s home. Returning to the scene of his crime, when he stabbed Ellie, returning to finish what he’d started but Zach would not allow him to hurt his family.
The problem was finding him in the throng of people that now occupied Deadwood. Thousands of people had come and more were on their way. Looking for the same kind of riches that he and his brothers had been lucky enough to find. They’d struck the mother lode with the gold claim that Lily Sutter had sold them.
He should go next door and get cleaned up, especially if he hoped to have any chance of convincing Lily about the room. She wouldn’t want a boarder who was as dirty as he was. He would ask her for meals, too. He needed them and sharing a meal, spending time together at her table, would be a good chance to get to know more about her and Gemma. The little girl needed a father but until the threat that Jordan presented was eliminated, until Jordan was eliminated, he couldn’t think about that. Couldn’t think about a family of his own.
They’d been in Deadwood for ten months, nearly a year before he left to go after Jordan and he’d been trying to court Lily all that time to no avail. She was having none of it. In all his thirty-eight years, he’d never been turned down by a woman. But she said he was a Yankee and too handsome for his own good and wouldn’t have more than a passing friendship with him.
Well, he wasn’t too handsome now, not with the scar on his face from Jordan’s knife. Red and angry, the wound still had the stitches. He needed to see Doc Cochran to get them out, today if possible, after he’d bathed. Then he could get a shave afterward and there wouldn’t be any stitches left for the razor to catch on.
He dismounted and tied the horse’s reins to the hitching rail then noticed a new bathhouse next door to Lily’s store. The sign said ‘Bath, shave and haircut’ five dollars. He went in there first. The old man, Richardson, was there working.
“Good day, Richardson. I’d like a bath now and a shave later.”
“You can do the bath but you have to pay Miss Lily,” he said, the few strands of long gray hair combed over the bald patch on top, though not covering it very well. “And then bring the token back here. She’s the one who does the shaves and haircuts since Sam left. You have to come back later for that, after she closes the store.”
“Alright, let’s just do the bath. Good and hot. I’ll go get the token. I haven’t had a good bath in weeks and am looking forward to this.”
Zach walked next door to the mercantile. The bell sounded as he entered. The one customer in the store took one look at Zach, and left hurriedly, keeping her face turned and her hand over her mouth as she passed.
“Be right with ya’ll,” said Lily.
He walked up to the counter. “No hurry,” said Zach, his voice still gravelly from lack of use.
Lily’s head snapped up and she stared. “Zach. Is that you?”
“In the flesh.”
She came around the counter. “You’re injured.” Reaching up toward the jagged cut on his face, she pressed her lips together, a gentleness crossed her features before she rallied and the starch came back. “You’re a mess. Where have you been? Why didn’t you say goodbye?”

The Author

Cynthia Woolf is the author of six historical western romance books and one short story with more
books on the way.
She was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in the mountains west of Golden. She spent her early years running wild around the mountain side with her friends.Their closest neighbor was one quarter of a mile away, so her little brother was her playmate and her best friend. That fierce friendship lasted until his death in 2006.
Cynthia was and is an avid reader. Her mother was a librarian and brought new books home each week. This is where young Cynthia first got the storytelling bug. She wrote her first story at the age of ten. A romance about a little boy she liked at the time.
Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia’s father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy not a bounty hunter and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now) not the ranch owner. Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and the great friends she's made at CRW for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

If Charlotte Brooks thinks she and her TV makeover show can turn Reno Wilder’s hometown upside down, he’ll be happy to prove her wrong. The x-Marine has seen too much turmoil and he likes Sweet, Texas, just the way it is. Traditional. Familiar. A little dull. Everything Charli isn’t. But instead of backing off from his scowls like everyone else, Charli digs in her skyscraper heels.

Reno Wilder is a one-man unwelcoming committee, but Charli isn’t budging. It’s clear the gorgeous cowboy needs an overhaul just as much as Sweet. Someone needs to break him out of that gruff shell and show him how fun and rewarding a little change can be.

Firefighter and former Marine Jackson Wilder has tough guy down to an art, but he’s learned the hard way that promises were made to be broken. Abigail Morgan was once his best friend, his first kiss, his first love, his first everything. He’d just forgotten to mention all that to her and she blew out of his life. Five years later, she’s back and he’s battling a load of mistrust for her disappearing act. But for some reason he just can’t keep his lips—or his hands—to himself.

When her stint as a trophy wife abruptly ends, Abby returns home to Sweet, Texas, and comes face-to-face with Jackson—her biggest and sexiest mistake. Time and distance did nothing to squash her love for the act-first-think-later stubborn hunk of a man, and when he suggests they renew their old just-friends vow, Abby realizes she wants more. She’d cut and run once. Could she do it again? Or could she tempt him enough to break his promise?

The men in Texas are hard to resist . . .

Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole “’til death do us part” thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn’t expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her “true love doesn’t exist” theory all to hell.

And they always promise . . .

Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet’s favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she’s a handful of trouble he can’t deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

My "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James Review

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

*Sigh* Where do I start with this review? I should probably start with my reason for reading this book in the first place, because this BDSM stuff isn’t my normal reading material.

Okay, so the movie is coming out early next year and, at the insistence of my cousin and a few of my friends, I finally decided to just read the darn book because we’ve all made a girls’ date to go see this flick. If you’ve read my blog in the past, you know that I’ve attempted to read this book at least twice already, and have put it down after a few chapters with no intention of ever picking it up again. I seriously just couldn’t get past all the contract stuff involved with their potential relationship and why on earth anyone would let someone hit them for pleasure. Anyway, I borrowed the book from my cousin, FINALLY read the WHOLE thing, and now I’m going to share my thoughts. Here goes…

I’m sure you all know the story by now (seeing as the book has been out for some time, and is quite popular) but just in case you haven’t, I’ll fill you in. The entire novel is written in first person point of view from Anastasia Steele. Ana is college student who covers for her roommate and interviews billionaire businessman Christian Grey. He’s absolutely gorgeous and intimidating, and Ana can’t help but be drawn to him like a moth to a flame—or Icarus to the sun, as was used multiple times throughout the novel. And Christian is drawn to her too, although Ana doesn’t understand why (she has trouble wrapping her head around the idea that someone as beautiful as Christian Grey can like someone like her who is clumsy and not very attractive—pretty much her exact words). Even though she feels this way, she can’t help herself when it comes to Christian, and finds herself entertaining the idea of his sexual lifestyle even though she is very inexperienced (she’s virgin when they meet). You can pretty much guess where the rest of this story goes from here.

So, now for my personal thoughts about this novel.

I will admit that when I started reading this I really, really disliked it. I could not for the life of me force myself to like Ana. I found her annoying and a little immature. And now that I’ve finished the novel, I’m still not sure how I feel about her. She’s a confused person, that’s for sure. She loves Christian, but doesn’t love his lifestyle choice. She wants to be with him, but doesn’t want to be with him the way he wants to be with her. I feel as though she went into this “relationship” with the intentions that she could change him—that she could turn him from his wicked ways and into the man she wants him to be. Not a good start, in my opinion, for a successful relationship. Christian was an interesting character, and I found myself wanting to know more about him and why he is the way that he is. He has that whole dark and mysterious thing going on, and I really wished that we got to find out more about his past in this book. As for the book itself…it really was just a lot of sex—and not even good sex, if I may be so bold to say so. I did not feel a real sexual connection between Ana and Christian until the end of the book when they actually make love and not f*ck (as Christian Grey would put it). It’s also around that time that I started to like the book because I finally started to feel like there was something more than just sex between them and that they could be a real couple.

Now for pros and cons—or likes and dislikes, as I’m going to call it. Let’s start with the some of the things I disliked about this novel…
- The fact that Ana never had any interest in anyone before Christian—never had the burning desire to kiss someone or be kissed. I just found that a little hard to believe. Not once in her pubescent years did her hormones make her have a tiny little crush on anyone?
- The constant reference to her “inner goddess” and subconscious.
- How Ana likes to get brave and piss Christian off, knowing darn well what’s going to happen when she does this—and then she gets all nervous when he makes to come through on his threat/promise.
- When Ana describes Christian’s pants “hanging in that way around his hips.” WHAT WAY, woman?
- How Christian had to announce that he was going to “take” Ana, or “have” her. Every. Freaking. Time. She might be innocent, but I think it’s pretty clear when all that kissing and touching is going on that they aren’t going to bake cupcakes—so no need to say your intentions out loud, dear Christian.
- The whole hitting for pleasure thing. TMI maybe, but I’ve never experience this so I don’t get it. I associate hitting with pain. Two of the things that I have strong opinions about are rape and men hitting women. So the fact that he likes to hit her just really set me off.

Okay, now for the things I liked—and yes, I know it’s a shorter list.
- How Christian was when he loosened up. He’s a very interesting character, as I said before, and throughout the novel he’s mostly dark and demanding. But when he lets go and releases his playful side he’s actually quite charming, and I did find myself swooning just a little.
- When Ana finally grew a backbone and confronted him about things—even if it were through email.
- Near the end of the novel when Christian surprises Ana while she’s visiting her mother. The whole showing-up-unannounced thing wasn’t the greatest, but it’s a few scenes after that where I finally started to believe that they could be a loving couple.

Overall, the book was just okay for me. Am I glad I read it? Sure. Would I read it again? Nope. Am I going to read the next book in the series? Yes. I need to know why this man is the way he is, and I’ve been told I find out in the next book. In all honesty, if this book were written from Christian’s point of view instead of Ana’s, I think I would’ve actually liked it more.

Quote of the Day 10/13

“He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.”

What I've Been Up To Lately

Hello and happy hump day, y'all!

It's been forever and a day since I've put together a blog post, so I thought it'd be a good idea to check in and let you know what I've been up to.

NORAH is doing absolutely wonderful and I am super happy that everyone is enjoying her story! The book has been on Amazon's best seller's list for western romance now for a little over a month now--that's really exciting stuff for me! The reviews/ratings I've seen come through on Amazon and Goodreads are amazing and really make my day, and I really do appreciate you all taking the time to write those reviews and post the ratings :) On a side note, ZANE is now back in the best seller's for western romance too! I find it absolutely crazy--happy/excited crazy--that I have not one but TWO books on a best seller's list. Thank you all so much!

Now that NORAH is out, and has been out for over a month now, things have been pretty slow around here for me. I've been working on getting the print version as perfect as I can get it so that can be released. Boy, that has been a process. It's the cover that's giving me so much trouble. I'm hoping this last revision I made finally fixed it. Same thing goes for ZANE. With the new cover design I had to re-do his print copy as well. I'm about to order sample copies--again!--and I'm really hoping this will be the last time. I finally got around to updating my website with the buy links for NORAH and adding an excerpt. My website still isn't how I want it to look, but it will get there eventually. Wordpress won't let me  upload my new template...ugh! I do have another project in the works and as soon as I have more to talk about I'll be sending out information in my newsletter. If you haven't signed up for my very periodic newsletter you can follow the link below and sign up :)

Luke's story is still very much a work in progress. I've had to slack off on writing lately because I have a lot going on in my home life--nothing bad, just a lot of new adjustments :) I'm hoping to get moving along with his story though very soon!

Well, I guess that's all I've got for now. I hope y'all are having a great week so far! Talk soon :)

Releasing September 30th
Avon Impulse

Rule #1 - Don’t lose focus...
Barrel racer Alicia Kanani has had a long road to the top - and she’s not quite there yet. Finances have always been tight, and in the glitz and glam world of professional rodeo, that means that second best is probably the best she can hope for. With the National Finals coming up, she’s certainly not looking for a pair of cowboys to distract her.

Rule #2 - Don’t gamble what you can’t live without…
Playboy Chris Thomas is sure Alicia’s the perfect woman for his level-headed team roping partner, David Greenly. It seems like a match, until Chris realizes he wants Alicia for himself. The stakes have been raised; David and Chris are supposed to be a team, and this time, they’re on opposite sides.

Can Alicia rope this playboy’s heart, or will they find themselves too tangled up to let true love in?

Please Enjoy the Following Excerpt from LEARNING THE ROPES:

“Remember that swimming hole off the highway, near Jackson Ranch Road?”

She laughed and nodded. “I haven't been there in years. We used to go every weekend.”

“We need to go now.”

We? Was he asking her out? Or was this just a friendly outing, reliving old memories?

“You wouldn't be trying to get me into a bathing suit just to see my tattoo, would you?”

Chris gave her a mischievous grin that made her stomach do a backflip. “So it's something a suit won't cover?”

She regretted saying anything and didn’t answer his question. “I could use a break and with Dad leaving this week for the show, there won't be much to do that the grooms can’t handle,” she said, changing the subject.

“We can make a day of it. Take lunch and just hang out, like old times. I have to help Dad tomorrow. What about Tuesday?”

She nodded and heard the sound of a hoof hitting metal. “Do you think that's yours or mine getting impatient?” She glanced at the trailers and saw Beast with his head hanging out the window. “Looks like it's mine. I’d better get going.” She reached into her purse to grab her wallet.

“I've got it.”

He slipped his credit card to the waitress, signing for the meal and rising to walk out with her. His hand slid to her lower back and her skin tingled at his touch, lightning shooting from his fingers directly into her belly and down her limbs. She knew better than to make more of his simple gesture than it was but couldn't help the pace of her heart. As she approached the trailer, she stepped onto the side rail to close the windows.

“Get your head in there, Beast. We're going home.”

Chris moved behind her, with a hand on either side of her, and closed the window. She spun and found herself eye to eye with him, her breath catching in her throat as he stared at her lips.

“Um, thanks,” she whispered, surprised she could get any sound out at all. She laid her hands on his shoulders, prepared to step down when he moved.

Instead of moving backward, Chris's hands found her waist and he lifted her from the side of the trailer and set her on the ground. She couldn't get her bearings with his hands on her ribcage and her fingers slid down the muscles of his biceps to grip his forearms. His eyes were dark with longing and she realized what he intended only moments before his mouth met hers in a scorching kiss.

They moved backward until she was pressed against the side of her truck, with every inch of him heating her flesh, his hands buried in her hair. His lips tasted her, teasing, branding her, demanding a response. She couldn't help herself as her fingers trailed up around his neck, drawing him down to her, closer. His lips moved from her mouth to her ear and down the side of her neck sending shivers of pleasure down her spine. His fingers trailed over her spine as she whispered his name, near frantic with yearning.

He growled and stepped away from her abruptly, leaving her trembling with longing. “Ali, what are we doing?”

She wasn't sure what he expected her to say. Her mind was still spinning with the dizzy exhilaration of his touch. When her eyes met his, she could see regret. She wasn't sorry he'd kissed her in the slightest. In fact, she wanted him to do it again, but she could see the guilt rising over him, drowning him with shame. Without another word, he turned and walked to his truck, climbing inside, leaving her standing beside hers with her hand over her kiss-swollen lips, wondering what just happened and how she was going to make it right.
